Orbital exists to expand the universe of high quality beekeeping.
Through expert care and mildly obsessive tendencies, we build strong, healthy honey bee colonies in the heart of North Carolina. We provide our bees the best possible chance for success by applying years of commercial and academic bee research, adhering to best beekeeping practice techniques, and fostering a culture of continual learning.To us, beekeeping is so much more than a hobby. It’s our scientific passion, and we’re out to perfect our craft.

Our Founders
STARLING AND CISSI KRENTZ
A third generation beekeeper, Starling has always been fascinated by bee colony genetics. His professional bee studies began while pursuing his masters degree in molecular biology at East Carolina University. Upon graduation he worked in commercial bee research, studying colony genetics and agricultural health across the United States. When Starling isn’t beekeeping, he can be found nose deep in a good beekeeping book. He also enjoys cooking and spending time with Cissi and the dogs.
Cissi’s love for bees was inspired by her love for Starling. With a much lower pain tolerance to bee stings than Starling, she utilizes her passion for performance, communication, and business management to keep Orbital (and Starling) in orbit. Cissi works in tech by day, and when she isn’t loving on Starling and the pups, she enjoys travel and happy dancing.
